Community Members,
The draft OCP was posted recently and, to date, the CVRD has received several concerns with respect to Section 5.4 "Hazard Lands". There is concern that this section of the plan and associated mapping pre-designates land as hazardous. In fact, it does not. However, understandably, the language and mapping needs to be sensitive and the intent of the policies must be clear.

"You can see the little barnacles opening their mouths!" exclaimed Louise Dwyer, peering into a gurgling tank of sea critters at the new Cowichan Estuary Nature Centre opening set Saturday at 1 p.m.
"And if we frighten that sea cumber, it would lose all its innards."

Cowichan Bay Spot Prawn Festival - on Mothers Day Weekend, May 12-13
A West Coast Treasure is Celebrated in a Wharfside Festival
Cowichan Bay , BC (Apr 16, 2012) – One of the highlights of the festival season kicks off May in a seaside village in the Cowichan Valley. The fourth annual Cowichan Bay Spot Prawn Festival is a celebration of the local spot prawn season. The sustainably harvested prawn is a local success story. Loved by chefs and in stores for a short window of time, the fresh spot prawn season is becoming a rite of spring.
The festival is a collaboration between the Village of Cowichan Bay, local merchants, area chefs and the Maritime Museum Centre. Action takes place throughout the village and includes live sales of spot prawns from the boats as they return to the docks with their fresh harvest. The festival is a beautiful and delicious way to spend a weekend on Vancouver Island and to enjoy the natural beauty of the scenery, food and people.
