Social Planning Cowichan and the Cowichan Regional Affordable Housing Directorate invite you to help design a project that will address the affordable housing need in the Cowichan Region.
The Cowichan Valley Regional Hospital District (CVRHC) has asked Social Planning Cowichan to convene stakeholders to determine how funding for affordable housing can best be used in the Cowichan Region. We are asking participants to design a project that will provide housing or housing supports to people who are in need of affordable housing.
Through a series of four workshops we will share information about our region’s housing needs and ideas for possible solutions. Design sessions will provide you with the opportunity to help create solutions that meet the unique needs of our Region. You and other participants will select the project criteria that best meets the community’s needs. Participants will select the best project to create a Request for Proposals (RFP) for CVHRD funding to create the project in the Cowichan Region.

About the Proposal
The CVRD, Cowichan Tribes, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Transport Canada, RCMP, Living Rivers, and BC Wildlife Federation are partners in an initiative to protect eelgrass habitat in Cowichan Bay. A Vessel Operation Restriction Regulation (VORR) would designate areas in Cowichan Bay as off-limits to motorized vessels in order to protect eelgrass from harmful boating activities such as prop scarring and anchoring. In response to public input, boundaries of the proposed restricted areas have been modified and eelgrass mapping is being updated. In addition to the VORR, a clearly defined navigation channel would improve boating safety and access to the Cowichan Bay Boat Launch and marinas in Cowichan Bay Village.
